May Morris (1862-1938), designer and embroiderer. To mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of William Morris’s daughter, Ornamental Embroidery is running a weekend course exploring the work of May Morris through a study of the designs she created for Morris & Co and her writings on embroidery technique. Students will create a Persian tulip design in the style of May Morris, worked in silks on an Indian tussar silk ground.
Roderick Taylor, textile collector and author of Ottoman Embroidery (1993) and Embroidery of the Greek Islands and Epirus (1998), will give an illustrated lecture on his historic collection of Ottoman and Persian embroideries.
